CCTV released after armed robbery of cash van in Derby

CCTV released after armed robbery of cash van in Derby Detectives investigating the armed robbery of a cash van in Derby are appealing for witnesses.

Officers were called to reports that a security guard travelling with a cash van had been threatened with a hammer by an armed robber.

At around midday yesterday (Monday, 9 December) a cash collection was taking place at the Go Outdoors store in Ascot Drive, Derby.

As the guard walked out of the shop a black GLA class Mercedes pulled up alongside him and the passenger jumped out armed with a hammer which he threatened the guard with.

A short chase followed around the car park, during which the cash box was dropped by the guard. The robber smashed open the box and made off with a significant amount of cash.

The black Mercedes turned left out of the Go Outdoors store and travelled down Ascot Drive at speed. A short time later the black Mercedes was dumped in Cotton Lane and the pair got into an older, red coloured Mercedes.

Detectives investigating the incident want to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have seen the incident.

Of particular interest are any drivers who were in the area at the time and have dashcam that may have captured either the black or red Mercedes.

Detectives also wish to speak to a couple who witnessed the incident and spoke to the security guard, who suffered minor injuries in the incident.
