Sixteen Palestinians killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza

Four more Palestinians have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on the Gaza Strip bringing the death toll to 16. The strikes targeted Palestinian groups including militant group Islamic Jihad, which had fired rockets from Gaza into Israel. The rockets were launched in retaliation for an Israeli airstrike that killed a top Islamic Jihad commander on November 12. Reuters said a special UN envoy is on the way to Egypt's Cairo to begin mediation efforts.
