Management and Humanities: The New Mainstream in Undergraduate Studies

Management and Humanities: The New Mainstream in Undergraduate Studies An implicit hierarchy has crept into education that places a
premium on STEM subjects as compared to management
or the humanities. Today, there is a powerful case for the
acceptance of humanities and commerce -- in educational
institutions, industry, society and most importantly in
the minds of students -- such that these disciplines are
no less than the sciences. The resurgence of humanities
and business has student well-being at its core, part of a
growing acceptance of different types of intelligence and
diverse competencies. It is gaining impetus as the future
of work calls for a multiplicity of skills and the emergence
of roles that straddle multiple disciplines. An unspoken
caste-ism is now making way for an environment in which
students of the humanities or commerce are first citizens in
education, along with those in the sciences.
