NDRF rescues infant from flood in Dakshina Kannada A stretch of the load linking Parlani village with Charmadi village in Belthangady taluk, Dakshina Kannada has been cut off after Mrutyunjaya river carried landslip debris, trees from the Western Ghats in heavy rains since August 9.

As the road is cut, about 40 houses in Parlani have lost connectivity with the mainland Charmadi where national highway 73 links it with rest of Karnataka. The NDRF team and locals evacuated many people stranded in Parlani towards Charmadi through a rope.

A toddler was among 85 persons who were rescued. According to Ganapathi Shastri, Tahsildar, Belthangady the toodler was unwell and shifted to Belthangady for treatment. In addition, two pregnants were also rescued. Of them the delivery of a pregnant has been fixed for August 11.
