Speaking to LBC radio, the Labour Councillor hit back at the Labour shadow foreign secretary following her claim on Wednesday Labour would be "off our bloody rockers" if it did not take the opportunity to remain in the EU given the option. Mr Chilton argued the Labour Party would risk losing the next general election as he highlighted all the factors the Labour leadership should consider before backing Remain in a second Brexit referendum. He said: “I think her comments were a little bit excited, actually.“I think it would be bonkers for us to campaign to Remain in light of the fact that 20 percent of Labour constituencies voted to Leave. A very large minority of the Labour vote, just under five million Labour voters voted Leave.“And if we go in the next general election, the seats we’ll need to win from the Tories voted to Leave.“And we have seen that since Boris Johnson became Prime Minister and has clearly said that while he would like a deal, if we don’t get one, we’re leaving without a deal, it would seem to me bonkers to ignore all those facts and pursue in the event to vote Remain.”Ms Thornberry, who is currently visiting Australia, demanded Labour's leadership come out with an anti-Brexit position in all circumstances.
