Results of follow up suggest that triangular conflicts, involving sexual desire and rivalry and competition over the object of desire, are all too often neglected in our therapies. We seem to assume everything is about attachment and dyadic relationships, yet follow up data suggest that triangular conflicts, both Oedipal conflicts and sibling rivalry, are common and must be addressed to achieve optimal results. In contrast, he common neglect of these issues contributes to poor outcomes.
