Narendra Modi Cabinet has cleared the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. The highly controversial bill seeks to provide Indian Citizenship to Hindu, Sikh, Christian, Buddhist, Parsi and Jain undocumented/illegal migrants from Afganistan, Pakistan and Bangladesh on grounds of religious persecution. Critics have protested the omission of Muslims in the proposed bill.
It is believed that Home Minister Amit Shah will soon table the bill in Parliament. Amidst debate around a nationwide NRC, the Opposition will attack Citizenship (Amendment) Bill on grounds of equality before law and secularism.

The Cabinet also approved the Personal Data Protection Bill 2019. The bill will likely include guidelines on -
- collection storage and processing of personal data;
- consent of individuals;
- penalties and compensation.
