Cioppino is a seafood stew that originated from Italian fishermen in San Francisco in the late 1800s. It was a way for people to use up whatever fish was leftover from the day's catch, all with a delicious blend of tomatoes, white wine, olive oil and aromatics. While myth has it that the name "Cioppino" came from people using fish to "chip in" to the stew, it's actually Italian in origin. It comes from the word "ciuppin" which roughly translates to "to chop". Either way, it's a delicious mainstay that garnered tons of popularity in San Francisco, and now it's a beloved favorite nationwide - and Giada's original Cioppino recipe is one of her most popular!
