How to lose 30 lbs in 30 days:
The Lake George High School soccer team was riding high with an undefeated season until a loss to the Voorheesville Blackbirds on November 2. After a scoreless first half, Voorheesville scored on a rebound shot and then played defensively to take the match 3-0. After the game, coach Blake White wanted to raise his team's morale, so he took the students to Hooters, according to the Times-Union. That decision has sparked some controversy among parents and administrators. On November 12, the team held an emergency meeting at the high school's fitness center, where White, school athletic director Kyle Manny and Lake George principal Fran Cocozza discussed the decision to take the teens to the restaurant best known for waitresses in tight T-shirts and short shorts. The notification for the meeting stated that the dinner was "not in line with our athletic program and school community values."Lynne Rutnik, the Superintendent of Schools told the Times-Union that disciplinary action had been taken, but refused to comment on the specifics. "It's been taken seriously and we addressed it," she said. "Other than that, I can't comment on personnel issues."White has coached Lake George's soccer team for over 37 years. According to an interview in The Saratogian, he has also coached tennis and worked as an off-ice official for the Adirondack Flames hockey team. White was appointed to take over Lake George's basketball program in 2018. It is unknown whether he will continue to coach either sport moving forward. This isn't the first time that a coach has found himself in trouble for a trip to Hooters. In 2013, KATU reported that an Oregon middle school volunteer football coach brought his team to the controversial eatery as a "coming of age" trip after they finished their season. Administrators were scandalized and chose not to ask coach Randall Burbach to return to Corbett Middle School next year. Burbach said that the celebration was "worth losing my coaching job over."Amid the controversy, Hooters picked up the tab for the team's party and then donated $1,000 to the Corbett Booster Club along with 20 percent of the sales from the location. Corbett Middle Schools' athletic director wrote a letter to parents expressing his disagreement with the decision, saying "Some might say that this restaurant objectifies women. I would tend to agree. I think it sends the wrong message to our young men and that saddens and worries me the most."
