After having watched Ninja Scroll and Vinland Saga episode 7 in close proximity to one-another, I got to thinking about the different approaches anime has taken to compositing illustrative mediums over time. I also got to thinking about whether or not the Vinland Saga anime being ugly sometimes was enough to make it not worth watching, even if it looked great sometimes. It certainly doesn't seem like I can live with only watching the anime and not also reading the manga, and that says something about both me and the differences in what can be reasonably accomplished in manga vs. anime. It's kind of a winding script and it took me forever to finally edit the damn thing, but hopefully this helps people to understand my specific gripes with the visuals in a show like Vinland Saga that basically looks great.
