WATCH: Hill says she was concerned about Sondland taking lead on Ukraine

Fiona Hill, the White House’s former top Russia adviser, said she was “surprised” when Gordon Sondland, the U.S. ambassador to the European Union, told her he was put in charge of U.S. policy toward Ukraine. Hill said she expressed her concerns to Sondland about his assertion, especially given that it came shortly after Marie Yovanovitch, the U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, was forced out of her position. Hill answered questions from Republican counsel Stephen Castor during a public hearing as part of the impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump. Sondland testified a day earlier that he delivered a kind of “quid pro quo” to Ukrainian officials to get them to investigate Trump’s political rivals.
