Main opposition LKP requests to start filibuster to deter vote on key reform bills

Main opposition LKP requests to start filibuster to deter vote on key reform bills The main opposition Liberty Korea Party has requested for a filibuster to stop parliamentary votes on some 200 bills during a plenary session originally set for today.
A filibuster can be convened if a third of the total lawmakers agree.
The LKP holds 108 seats in parliament, which passes the threshold.
However, the ruling party and the minor opposition parties are planning NOT to open the plenary session, to block the LKP from starting the filibuster.
The latest move by the conservative party is part of efforts to stop key fast-track bills on electoral reform and the creation of a corruption probe unit.
With or without a filibuster, political bickering is expected to delay the handling of a host bills, including on next year's budget bill and a revision to the road traffic act to strengthen children's safety in school zones.
