De Blasio has said his wedding band is a “Native American Zuni Indian ring” that the couple bought last minute on the day before their 1993 nuptials. The perpetually tardy mayor was also reportedly late to the wedding ceremony. “It was the day before our wedding and Chirlane and I had not been able to find a ring we found interesting enough to wear, with all due respect to other types of rings,” de Blasio said in 2014. “We went to a store in Greenwich Village and it was about to close – and it was the last store we could get to.” “We're looking around – great planning, here – we're looking around, and this multi-stone – different kinds of stones – Zuni Indian ring, screamed out to us at the very last moment,” he continued. “It was meant to be. And I love my ring. And I love my wife.” De Blasio and McCray met at City Hall in 1989 when they both worked for former Mayor Dinkins. They celebrated their 25th anniversary this May.
