Mr Minister of Agri/Ministers you all spoke well...trying to help the farmers/Agriculture You mentioned supplying fertilizers...Let me address that
Not just any kind of fertilizer should be used to sustain the farming of food that millions of Cameroonians and the world will have to eat. fertilizers are food for crops, used to provide all the necessary nutrients to the soil where crops were harvested from to keep it healthy/fertile, that way productivity is high and farmers can benefit as you mentioned.
It is very important that the nutrients in the fertilizer are naturally occurring… Such as fertilizer produced from Cow feces, decompose etc they should be used preferably!!!
Yes fertilizer helps the farmers to grow more food on the farm and provide tons of food for the growing population of Cameroon and the world, but the fertilizers need to be used responsibly so that natures habitats are also protected in the process meaning fertilizers should come from the right sources, used in the right proportions as well as at the right time, not forgetting also at the right place (forests should NOT be turned into farming land). When all these are taken into account crops will get the right nutrients in a cost effective way. Crops can also benefit from crop rotation and the amount of water they get and most importantly the farmer’s access to markets should be improved both locally and International.
There should be policies on the kind of fertilizer farmers should use in Cameroon. The use of chemical fertilizers such as those containing urea etc should NOT be allowed because there are negative effects of using fertilizers filled with harmful chemicals such as:
• The pollution of water (fertilizer will go into the ground and start to accumulate in water for years causing long term effects)
• Pesticides Urea will cause acid rain that will negatively affect the ozone – when the ozone is contaminated if affects the health because when the rain falls along comes cancer causing agents, birth defects and much more
• The water pollution will also start to affect the fish in the water over time (start to die)
• Gases are released that can cause air pollution causing respiratory problems, heart problems, many different cancers and much more
• Crops will be destroyed and not helped to grow
• Chemical deplete the soil of their nutrients making the soil rather acidic thereby producing food of very low quality (what a waste of time)
Yes, Chemical fertilizers help plants grow faster, but the harvest will not help anybody because the crops were NOT given the proper time to mature/develop…it will only end up hurting both the people of Cameroon as well as their animals in the long run!
Fast food production comes with a price tag…Fast Growth of Illnesses!
Mr. Minister the harmful list of chemical fertilizer is very long, all these will definitely NOT happen in Cameroon (Africa), if chemical filled fertilizers are BANNED from EVER EVER entering Cameroon or manufactured EVER…It is clearly NOT WORTH IT!!!
Yes the government send you to come do the work, but you caused the flood...the least you all can do is say SORRY to the people affected with the water in their homes! all those affected should be compensated and the problem should have been taken care of immediately to avoid further damages to the people and the city...
