Replica of Captain Cook's ship docks in New Zealand, marking 250 years since his arrival Emotions were mixed in New Zealand as a replica of Captain James Cook's ship sailed into the country, marking 250 years since his arrival there. A Maori welcome was held at dawn as the ship approached the coastline. About 150 people lined the shoreline, with some protesting the ship's arrival as it docked in Gisborne. Captain Cook and the crew of his ship Endeavour arrived in 1769.
