A short and simple explanation of organization.
What is Organization?
“a consciously coordinated social unit, composed of two or more people, that functions on a relatively continuous basis to achieve a common goal or set of goals"
This is the definition for " Organisation " by Stephen Robbins.
As we all know Organisations are an important part of our daily lives. Our society is made up of many diverse kinds of organisations like
industrial, governmental, non-governmental, political, religious, educational, military, health, and social organisations.
Organisations like college, social groups, clubs and family directly affects us.
Our living standard, security, and even identity depend upon the effectiveness of many organisations.
organisations are very complex social systems which can be defined and studied in a number of different ways. A significant and useful approach has been provided by Morgan in 1986.
using eight different metaphors, Morgan has drawn attention to a wide range of features of organisations in which there are
organization as machines, as organisms, as brains, but I am particularly interested in Organisation as a Psychic prison.
Organizations as Psychic Prisons" describes the idea that "organizations are ultimately created and sustained by conscious and unconscious processes,
and people actually become imprisoned in or confined by the images, ideas, thoughts, and actions to which these processes give rise.
The metaphor encourages us to understand that while organizations may be socially constructed realities, these constructions
are often attributed an existence and power of their own that allow them to exercise a measure of control over their creators".
Morgan sees the role of the unconscious as both a "creative and destructive force" .
we need to understand the role of the unconscious in organizational life and learn to use its energy in transformational ways.
Organisations can make us sealed in some ernvironments.
We see each other, and we see the world around us. But what are we really seeing? Are we seeing an independent world? Or are we just seeing and experiencing projections
of ourselves? Are we imprisoned by the language, concepts, beliefs, and a general culture through which we enact our world?"
These should be the questions that we should ask more often to ourselves because organisations can make us share illusions.
The morality we see in our actions , may be a false belief created by the organisation we are in.
