Police said the rampage in Chinatown Saturday morning that left four homeless men dead and one critically injured appeared to be “random attacks.” “Motive appears to be, right now, just random attacks. It doesn’t seem anybody was targeted by race, age, anything of that nature,” said Chief of Manhattan South Detective Michael Baldassano at a press conference. The homicidal spree began when cops received a 911 call about an assault on the Bowery near Doyers Street in Chinatown at about 1:50 a.m., where cops found two men with “severe” head trauma. One of the men was pronounced dead at the scene, while another was taken to NewYork-Presbyterian Lower Manhattan Hospital hospital in critical condition, officials said. He was being interviewed by police Saturday to help identify his attacker, who sources identified to The Post as Rodriguez “Randy” Santos. Santos — also believed to be homeless—has 14 past arrests, including an assault charge from May, the sources said. Police searching the area then discovered three other male victims around the corner on East Broadway, all with head trauma, authorities said. The three men — who had been sleeping at the time of the attacks — were pronounced dead on the scene, police said. Shortly after the bloody beatings, two witnesses identified the attacker as a man wearing a black jacket and black pants that had “struck the victim numerous times in the head” and then fled, police said. While canvassing the area, cops spotted the alleged killer — who was holding a three-foot-long, blood-covered metal object that appeared to be from a construction site, a source told The Post. The 24-year-old was taken into custody at the scene, police said. Police identified the murder weapon as a “rectangular” metal pipe and urged anyone who may have seen the rampage to come forward. “I would ask that anyone who may have seen something last night or even a few days in the past, or may themselves have been a victim of a crime like this, that they please contact the police,” Baldassano added. “We’ll take any information if someone saw something strange last night” Police investigate the scene where homeless men were found dead in Chinatown.
