An extremely pretty Yellowbelly

An extremely pretty Yellowbelly As the days start reaching 30 degrees plus, the Yellowbelly are on the move to search for a mate to begin spawning. I headed to a place where I knew they couldn't travel any further upstream, and set about casting some lures around with the aim of taking one home for dinner. It wasn't long at all before I started getting follows and strikes, but the fish just weren't hooking up. I figured out that the jighead I was using for the plastic I chose simply wasn't big enough, and the offset hooks I had were too big.
After changing to an old mate spinnerbait, it only took 4 casts before an absolutely gorgeous Yellowbelly put a bend in my rod.
I will use the yum crawbug plastics again once I've acquired some more appropriate hooks for them, as the fish were DEFINITELY interested in them.
