Former UN Secretary General Ban stresses the need to empower women and youth

Former UN Secretary General Ban stresses the need to empower women and youth Former UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon emphasizes the importance of taking a "future-oriented" approach to resolve the intensifying trade and diplomatic feud between South Korea and Japan. As neighboring countries, he urges the leaders of the two countries to sit down for talks to address historical issues "squarely" based on mutual respect and seek what's mutually beneficial for both sides.
Ban, who's currently serving as the chairman of South Korea's National Council on Climate and Air Quality, adds that he wanted to do more for his country during his post-UN career, highlighting the urgent need to tackle the fine dust problem. According to Ban, South Korea ranks among the lowest in the OCED when it comes to air quality.
Ban also shared his 10-year experience as the UN chief, saying that a sense of "global citizenship" is what makes a "good leader" and he's willing to devote his post-UN career to fostering "global citizenship" among young people.
The ex-UN chief also stresses the need to empower women and youth, as these two demographics account for over half of the global population, respectively, and called on future generations to "be prepared" for the many complicated challenges coming their way.
