We're going to analyze a couple of Tywin Lannister's best dialogues. We'll look at scenes from the skinning deer scene, to where Tywin shows Joffrey who's boss. This will be a tribute to Tywin's greatness!
Below, I have broken down Tywin's principles and philosophies on life.
1. Be A Lion Not A Sheep (2:46)
2. Have a Simple/Memorable Slogan (3:45)
3. Protect Your Reputation At All Costs (4:56)
4. Build A Reputation Beyond The Grave (5:58)
For point #,1 Tywin teaches us that in order to be powerful you have to believe you are powerful. Being a lion means that you don't concern yourself with the petty opinions of others. Don't react to these people, especially when they try to get a rise out of you.
For point #2, The slogan - "Lannister's always pay their debts", is very simple and memorable. When creating your own slogan, be sure that to create it around something that sets you apart. Once you've created this, do everything in your power to reinforce that phrase, and it'll spread like wildfire.
For point #3, Tywin goes to war for his son Tyrion. He guards the Lannister name so fiercely that anyone who even thinks about undermining the Lannister name will be met with blood and steel. Your reputation doesn't need to be like that, but once you've established your reputation, ensure that nobody undermines it.
For point #4, Tywin is in it for the long haul. He's building a legacy that people will remember for hundreds of years. Remember, when building your reputation, to think about what you want people to remember you for even after your dead. Then do everything you can to make sure it does last that long.
Below are the other key points when we are dissecting specific scenes
1. Create Your Boundaries (8:35)
2. Control The Timing (9:46)
3. Maintain Eye Contact (11:15)
4. You Really Think a Crown Gives You Power (12:06)
