Site of attack near Kabul on Croatian soldiers

Site of attack near Kabul on Croatian soldiers (24 Jul 2019) One of three Croatian soldiers injured in an apparent suicide bomber attack in Afghanistan has died, Croatia's Defence Ministry said Wednesday.

The 27-year-old soldier, identified only by his initials JB, died Wednesday from injuries he suffered in the attack in Kabul, the ministry statement said.

Afghan Interior Ministry spokesman Nasrat Rahimi said the soldiers were in a convoy near a military base on the outskirts of Kabul when the attacker slammed his motorcycle into one of the vehicles.

It wasn't immediately clear what happened to the attacker.

Croatian Defence Minister Darmir Krsticevic told reporters earlier Wednesday that three soldiers were injured and that one of them suffered serious head injuries and was in life-threatening condition.

Krsticevic said the other two were out of danger.

Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenkovic said Croatia had never experienced such an attack since joining the international missions 16 years ago.

There are 99 Croatian soldiers serving with the international mission in Afghanistan.
