Canada has pretty straight forward application process. The process is very similar to its counterpart USA. However, if you do not have a lot of time to research and do everything on your own, consultants can turn out to be very useful. If you find the right consultant/counselor, they will be able to explain the whole process and tell you exactly what you need to know. But please be aware that these counsellors don't write your SOPs or LORs. They don't even tell you which university to choose. They only help you with the information. So if you think that you need counselling to write your SOPs then I don't think it's the right approach. These counsellors however, will edit and proofread your SOP and stuff.
Counsellors know exactly how to fill various different application forms. Now, every university would have a different requirement in terms of application form. And these counsellors would know everything about it. So, they would most certainly be able to help you better with filling application forms etc.
Do your research well in advance and do not hesitate to ask any question or doubt that you have in mind.
