Method Demonstration - Making Brass Splice Bars

A method for creating longer pieces of rail from shorter sections or to create a "floating" joint without the use of traditional rail joiners.

I've used this method, or a similar one using phosphor-bronze wire in place of the brass strips, on about twenty feet of my mainline. It does a good job of disguising the splice / joint AND doesn't require modifying a tie to accommodate the extra thickness of the traditional joiner at the base of the rail.

The phosphor bronze method is much quicker, and is, for all intents and purposes as strong when bending horizontally. It is not as strong when bending vertically though.

A third approach for an actual joint is to not use joiners at all; that method requires that you feed power to each rail.
