Neil Ansell, 28, is a curious and adventurous urban explorer that has snuck into everything from haunted prisons to classic cinemas.
But on August 3, Neil travelled from his home in Weymouth, Dorset, to one of the world’s most infamous and deadly sites, Chernobyl.
Wanting to explore every inch of the radioactive site, Neil snuck into the unfinished and still guarded Reactor 5, which ceased completion after the deadly disaster that took place in Reactor 4 on April 26th 1986.
Walking up the abandoned, dilapidated staircase, Neil reached the roof of Reactor 5, which offered unprecedented and unparalleled views of the entire Chernobyl site.
Neil said: “It felt very strange knowing what had happened inside Chernobyl.
“I felt emotional standing on top of Reactor 5 looking over the whole of the plant.
“Chernobyl has always been a dream location for me to explore.
A mecca for all urban explorers, the nuclear disaster site has caused fixated fasciation for brave wanderers the world over.
Looking out at the barren landscape, Neil’s breath was taken away.
Neil said: “Walking around Chernobyl is not as dangerous as most people think.
“Some parts are still very radioactive but if you keep to the places the tour guides take you, then you will be fine.”
