World Flood | Fact Or Fiction | Genesis 7

INTRODUCTION: TURN TO GENESIS 7
Paul writing to Timothy said... 2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NKJV) 16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, 17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.
The word “inspiration” means “God breathed” Inspiration is an act of God by which God communicated His Word and directly controlled the writers so what was written was totally free from error in their original autographs
• Because every word of the Bible is inspired by God, God’s Word is true, completely accurate and can be taken literally and believed
• This is essential to FAITH to know the Bible is God’s literal Word
• Because FAITH comes by the continual hearing of the Word of God... speaking of the written Word of God, the logos... not a prophetic word
• Thus if you believe like the majority of our culture that the Bible is not the literal Word of God, that is has errors, that it contains the Word of God but it’s not all the Word of God... then your faith will be unstable at best
According to a recent Gallup Poll (2017)
• 24% of all American believe the Bible is the actual Word of God and it to be taken literally, word for word
• 26% believe it’s a book of fables
• 47% believe it’s inspired by God but shouldn’t be taken literally
You say what difference does that make?
• God’s Word has some definite things to say about how we live
• But if you don’t believe it’s true, then you won’t care what it says and you certainly won’t make decisions to align your life up to God’s Word
Only 38% look to the Bible as a standard for making decisions about work or school
• It shouldn’t be a surprise that the millennial generation is more connected , working longer hours, always on, never off line, no clear boundaries between work, school and family
• And as a result, they are delaying marriage, having families and are more filled with anxiety than previous generations
• It’s all because the Bible is no longer considered to be the literal Word of God
• What’s shocking is the growing number of pastors who believe the Bible isn’t literal, it’s just a book of moral stories to teach us lessons on how to be successful in life
• Stories like Jonah and the Whale... come on... that’s a whale of a tale
• Or the Creation story... everyone knows it’s scientifically not true
• Or the story of the flood... there is no scientific evidence of a flood
• These are just stories to help us live better lives
• No sir... the Bible is the only accurate and reliable account of earth’s history and it doesn’t just contain God’s Word... it is God’s Word... God speaking to man
• And because the Bible is a reliable record, we should be able to see evidence of the flood around the world... and in fact we do
There are 2 primary evidences we will cover today
• Historical Evidence
• Geological Evidence
HISTORICAL EVIDENCE Genesis 7:1–6 (NKJV) 7 Then the LORD said to Noah, “Come into the ark, you and all your household, because I have seen that you are righteous before Me in this generation. 2 You shall take with you seven each of every clean animal, a male and his female; two each of animals that are unclean, a male and his female; 3 also seven each of birds of the air, male and female, to keep the species alive on the face of all the earth. 4 For after seven more days I will cause it to rain on the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will destroy
