Recently read an article on GamesIndustry.biz that I found to be quite interesting; it was about what Sean Murray had to say about his experience around the 'No Man's Sky' launch and what he had learned during and after the media blackout that lasted two years.
Back when 'No Man's Sky' released, I had never seen a game received the way it was. In fact, I had never even been as let down by a game before. However it appears that others developers, including some AAA devs, have emulated Hello Games' early development decisions and gotten themselves into similar predicaments.
Sean's tale is a cautionary one that reminds developers that the media is entirely consumer focused and that it's unlikely that they'll be able to effectively convey the nuance of game development through it.
Enjoy the vid.
