Brave 13-year-old girl fights off attacker who followed her home from school

Brave 13-year-old girl fights off attacker who followed her home from school A 13-year-old school girl bravely fought off an attacker after he followed her home from school and tried to grab her as she was just steps away from her front door.  Terrifying video footage shows the young girl pushing and shoving the man with all her might as he attempts to drag her away.  But at the last moment, the teenager manages to wriggle free, and runs straight to her front door to bang for help.  Moments later, the girl's older brother emerges from the house and confronts the attacker.  The incident took place on Tuesday, July 2, as the girl was walking home from Lawrence Road Middle School in Hempstead, New York.    Speaking to US news channel PIX 11, the girl said: "I was screaming. Like, I was trying to defend myself.  "He grabbed my neck... he was trying to still cover my mouth."  After the incident, the male suspect fled on foot.    Around 24 hours later, officers confirmed they'd arrested 24-year-old Jarrod James.  He faces multiple charges, including endangering a child, second-degree assault and attempted kidnapping.  It's believed that James has no connection to the teenager, and police are calling it a random attack.    James is currently being held in the Nassau County Correctional Center.  The 13-year-old girl has now been praised for her bravery after the video of the attack was shared on news sites in America.  Callahan Walsh of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children told ABC News: "This little girl did do everything right."    "When a child is able to get away, it's because of something that they did that was proactive - kicking, screaming, drawing attention, making noises, exactly what this girl did in this case.  "She did everything she could to get to get away from this guy."
