Tool runout was something I had no idea about when I first became a machinist. Let's talk about what it is, its causes, and finally, test the effects that runout has on surface finish by running one half of the toolpath with "bad" runout and then the second half after we dial it in using a screwdriver and electrical tape (YES, you read that right). Love it or hate it, the real question is: Does it stay dialed through the entire duration of a machining op?
