Church buildings
Many professing Christian denominations and circles will stress the importance of meeting together with other like-minded brethren at a "church" building. It sounds like we should. But should we?
I agree that we should gather together at times because it's edifying and encouraging. However we need to be careful not to fall into the trap of sinning in two extreme circles:
1. Refusing to meet with any brethren - resulting in hating the brethren, which would prove that you're not a real Christian.
2. Meeting with any professing Christian and any denomination in any building that is well constructed, externally and internally decorated. Especially with idolatry.
1. The church exists and is the people. Not a building.
a. See Matthew 16:18; 18:17; Acts 2:47; 5:11; 1 Cor 1:2; 7:17.
b. The word "church" appears in scripture 79 times. The word "churches" appears 36 times. Every time this word appears in Scripture (save one reference which we'll see shortly) it is always in reference to the people, not the building.
