'A healing tradition': Tracing the origins of the Native American jingle dress

The exact origin of the jingle dress is unclear; evidence suggests the tradition may have started in Minnesota a century ago. But they're now a part of powwows and other Native American gatherings across the continent. Brenda Child is a University of Minnesota professor, born on the Red Lake reservation, and a former trustee at the Smithsonian's National Museum of the American Indian. She may be the world's leading authority on jingle dresses.
