THE RUNDOWN | Muslims are marking the Ramadan month with the nightly festive meal that breaks the day time fast, but in this southern Bedouin town family members find themselves divided by the border separating Israel from the Gaza Strip. Our Alec Pollard has the story.
After a deadly flare-up at the beginning of this month that killed four Israeli civilians and 25 Palestinians, including at least nine militants, Israel and Hamas reportedly reached an understanding to halt hostilities for up to six months.
Israel's Channel 12 reported Monday that the Gaza Strip's Islamist government agreed to stem violence on the border with Israel and maintain a 300-meter security buffer, among other understandings.
In return, Israel will continue to allow an extended fishing zone off Gaza's coast, keep border crossings open for medical and humanitarian supplies, as well as ease other unspecified restrictions.

The escalation, during which Hamas and other militants in the Gaza Strip launched hundreds of rockets into Israel, representing the most violent military confrontation between Hamas and Israel since a 2014 war.
A report in the Jerusalem-based Palestinian al-Quds newspaper Monday revealed that Hamas operatives had tried to shoot down an Israeli military helicopter during the fighting, but the attack failed.
Before the militants were able to launch the missile at the chopper, flying above the northern Strip, they were destroyed by an Israeli airstrike after they were picked up by an IAF jet.
Israel did not immediately comment on the Palestinian report.
Hamas spokesperson Fawzi Barhoum said the report had no basis, emphasizing that any ceasefire arrangement is dependent on "Israel's commitment to implement all the understandings."
