Home Talk example for Big Write & VCOP

Home Talk example for Big Write & VCOP Hi all!
I know there has been a diverse understanding from schools, as well as parents, about the expectations of Home Talk leading up to a Big Write celebration.

Basically, all we are hoping is that children can access conversation outside of school from a variety of sources (so the more the merrier- don't separate sibling discussing different topics for example). The discussions will also happen in the classroom, but the more sources and ages/variety of sources they talk to, the more language and grammatical structures they are exposed to. The benefits to this pre discussion, is extremely evident in their writing, and a teacher in most cases can pick up two pieces of writing and tell who has completed home talk and who hasn't. Their ideas are clearer, they start the task quicker, they are more confident, their language is higher and their technical skills such as sentence structure and grammar are also stronger.
You don't need to write things down, complete a planner, start the text at home.
You do not need to complete the home talk the night before (although that might be beneficial for juniors and creating stronger memory links). Topics may be sent home on Monday with readers for example, and then parents have a few nights/mornings to have a discussion.

This video was made using a reverse dash cam set up with the discussion of 2 topics completed during the drive from school pick up to daycare pick up (10mins).
