Ben Zobrist’s personal leave of absence has now been sadly explained. He’s getting a divorce after 14 years of marriage, according to court documents Zobrist filed just outside Nashville, Tenn., alleging his wife, Julianna, “has been guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which rendered further cohabitation impossible,” The Tennessean reported. He did not elaborate. The 37-year-old infielder is in the final year of a four-year deal with the Cubs. He has helped the Royals and Cubs both win World Series crowns. Zobrist has been on leave since May 8, and the Cubs did not give a reason for why he left the team or offer a return date. “No indication,” manager Joe Maddon told reporters Tuesday when asked about when he could get Zobrist back. “I texted with him the other day and reminded him how much I care about him, how much we miss him.” Zobrist’s wife, a singer, filed separately for divorce, citing “irreconcilable differences.”
