Do you want to raise your lawn pH ? Using your soil test, in this video I will show you how to calculate the amount of lime that you need to apply so you can raise your soil pH for a very healthy lawn. The first thing you need to do is get a soil test. The soil test (mine was by soil savvy) will tell you what the pH of your lawn is, among a lot of other things. Once we know what our pH is, we can create this simple and easy to use spreadsheet to calculate the exact amount of lime that we need to put down to bring our pH value up to around 6.5.
Also, we can go over the fertilizer recommendations and calculate the correct N P and K values that the soil test is recommending, and then correlate that to a fertilizer that is available at your local home stores. Odds are, the fertilizer recommended by soil savvy is not available in your local area, so you will have to do this quick and easy calculation to see how many pounds of product you need to put down on the ground as recommended, then the same calculation with the rates of the bags from your local store. We need to do this to make sure that if the soil test is recommending .6 pounds of nitrogen using a 16-16-16 fertilizer, we can calculate the correct spreading rate in pounds per 1000 square feet using a fertilizer such as a 12-12-12.
