Making an Overly Complicated Leather Keychain
Sometimes it's really nice to make an upscale version of a simple leather craft item. When we try out new techniques, we like to do it on smaller leather items like keychains and key fobs - it allows us to try out new things and assess the results a lot more quickly than on larger projects!
This leather keychain is a bit more complicated than it needs to be. We made this leather keychain with vegetable tanned leather, and while you could absolutely just cut the main piece and install the snap without any stitching we wanted to go a bit further. On our leather keychain we cut a smaller structure piece and sandwiched it between the exterior and liner of the leather keychain. We molded the leather to provide some really cool dimension, then we used a saddle stitch to put it all together.
We used our own custom trim on this piece, with a plated brass button concho and our signature split rings - however any button or concho works well with maybe a nice solid brass split ring from japan :)
