An alert fir those of you serious British vinyl. As far as we are aware, this 45 is PROMO ONLY NEVER ISSUED!!
In 1970 British Ember Records acquired the rights to the East Detroit, "GM" recording label. Handpicking the finest new releases from their extensive catalogue notable choices were; Mr. Flood's Party, Tony & Tyrone, Eddie Robinson, Jones Girls Mary Fraser Jones and this stunning vocal group slab of Four Tops inspired Northern Soul by "Fork In The Road"
In-house producer Larry Douglas crafts a fabulous Four Tops-esque Northern Soul dancer, that has turned out to be one of the very rarest Britain's Soul 45's of all-time. Written by superior vocalist Eddie "Hey Blackman" Robinson, a man with such a seasoned vocal, we can talk about him in the same breath as the Four Tops.
Click the impressive soundfile and wonder why "Fork In The Road" hasn't become a Northern Soul classic decades ago. The only thing preventing it doing so, was the GM 45 was never quite rare enough to massage a DJ's ego; whilst the British release is so damn rare, nobody has hardly ever owned a copy.
By comparison the UK Ember promo copy, we only know of 3 sales this century. BY comparison if the USA GM 45 was a 3 copy only 45, the price would have hit a 4 figure sum, long, long ago.
We consider this 1971 British release sits without question in the top 10 rarest British release Northern Soul 45's of all time, perhaps even sneaking into the top 5....so very rare indeed
And it's bloody brilliant!.. vocally immense, woven into a fanstastic muscular production that screams "Northern Soul!!!" drenched in spine-tingling quality.
So far beyond the status of "rare", we'll probably never ever be able to list another... certainly not in this completely perfect condition.
A breath-taking 45...
