A building inspector in San Luis Obispo’s Community Development Department, knocked a woman unconscious and pummeled her unsuspecting friend in May 2016. Olcott continued to work in his position of power as a building inspector, going into people's homes. He was arrested for felony battery causing great bodily injury. Later the City Inspector reached a plea bargain with SLO County DA to reduce the felony to misdemeanor assault with great bodily harm. and the Inspector plead guilt in February 2019. Meanwhile, the City kept him employed and even promoted him with a raise in February 2019. After the video surfaced, there was immense public outrage and the Inspector was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation.but accepted a plea bargain and plead guilty to a misdemeanor in February 2019. He remained employed as a City Inspector. On 4/16/2019, and the video surfaced online and the public was outraged. The Inspector was placed on paid administrative leave pending an internal investigation by the City.
